The Reason for God and Vintage Jesus

Date March 31st, 2008 Comment 1 Comment

I’ve been behind on my reading- between school and message preparation, I spend a lot of time in the books (no complaints here!) So, I’m late on my “extra-curricular” reading. However, two great books have recently been released- both are excellent and worth the read.

Anything by Tim Keller is worth you time. […]

Auction

Date March 29th, 2008 Comment 4 Comments

For the first time in my life, I attended an auction. Today, Melody, Emaline, and I went to the Fat Man’s “pre-demolition” auction: a cultural experience of ridiculous proportions! Like a scene from a movie, a fast talking man with a bullhorn rapidly and rhythmically spouted off numbers and instructions, conjuring up responses […]

The NEXT series

Many claim to love Jesus, but not the church.  But Scripture makes it clear that the church is His bride to whom He is faithful though she may not be. The church is His body. Christ loves His body and bride- died for her, redeems her, and uses her to grow His […]

Emaline at 6 months

Date March 26th, 2008 Comment 1 Comment

Andy has once again captured the beauty of my sweet daughter who is now 6 months old.  We discovered this great spot in the back garden of a vacant mansion.  It made for a fun day of Easter pics.  We didn’t hunt any eggs (although the location was ideal).

Reflections on St. Patrick

Date March 17th, 2008 Comment No Comments

Not only did he provide a reason to celebrate with green beer and parades, St. Patrick’s influence crosses boundaries of faith, culture, music, and literature.  A great book, The Celtic Way of Evangelism, has great modern implications for ministry as inspired by Patrick.  Like Jesus, he trained a small core of followers and then lived […]

Palm Sunday

Date March 16th, 2008 Comment No Comments

As we celebrate the final week of Jesus’ ministry on earth, we are reminded of the words in Isaiah:
Isaiah 25:6-9
6 On this mountain the Lord of hosts will make for all peoples
a feast of rich food, a feast of well-aged wine,
of rich food full of marrow, of aged wine well refined.
7 And he will swallow […]

Righteousness and Justice

Date March 12th, 2008 Comment 1 Comment

Several weeks ago, I read Good News About Injustice. The book and the work of International Justice Mission is one of the many resources that have opened my eyes to more and more injustices in the world, both on the global and local levels.
In studying Proverbs, we see that God gives wisdom for practical […]

Family Trip to NC

Date March 10th, 2008 Comment 2 Comments

We just returned from a long overdue getaway in the mountains of NC. On the way, we stopped at the Tallulah Gorge (Mel and Emi pictured above) and had lunch at a tasty place called Isabelle’s.
Once in NC, we found a neat little spot called North Shoal Creek Falls (pictured below). Emaline enjoyed […]

Gordon Fee

Date March 8th, 2008 Comment 6 Comments

A few weeks ago, I had the great privilege of hearing Dr. Gordon Fee speak at Erskine Theological Seminary. He is the author of several books I’ve found helpful in my personal growth and my teaching ministry.
Dr. Fee gave two informative and inspiring lectures on “The Holy Spirit of Promise” and “The Spirit […]
